Pilely: Build a Real Web App by Chatting With the AI You Already Pay For

· 3 min read

Pilely, launched on Show HN on October 24, has a simple proposition: your ChatGPT, Claude or other AI subscription is now an app builder. You describe the app you want in plain words, copy a starter prompt into the AI you already pay for, and you get a real web app that anyone can open at its own link — built for one user or a million. No new subscription to an AI coding tool, no code editor required to start.

How it works

The pitch is aimed at the app only you need: a tool so specific to your life that nobody else would build it, made in an afternoon. The hard parts come built in rather than coded by your AI from scratch. Login works with just an email and a one-time code, with no passwords to manage, and you decide who gets in — everyone, only people you invite, or just you. Your app holds its own data, tracks progress and handles repeatable work, while your AI keeps it up to date over time, adding new data and analysing what it stores. Pilely's argument is about token efficiency as much as convenience: you do not need your agent running around the clock; you need your app running around the clock, talking to your agent when it is time.

What stays yours

The ownership terms are the strongest part of the offer. Your apps, data and account live on Pilely, not inside a chat, so you can switch AI whenever you like — paste the same prompt into a new AI and everything you built is still there, nothing to move or export. Your AI writes your source code, and it stays with you on your own computer to keep, change or take anywhere. Everything your app stores can be read out through its own API, so moving your data is a job your AI can do. And payments run through your own Stripe account, so your customers and revenue stay yours wherever you go. On scale, Pilely says apps are served from a global CDN, databases grow on demand and servers scale out.

The honest limits

Three cautions apply. First, Pilely is brand new, and the page reviewed here states no pricing — treat any cost question as unanswered until the company publishes it. Second, you are trusting a young startup with your app's hosting, and the exit terms, while generous on paper, are untested in practice. Third, the AI still writes the code, which means the same review burden as any AI-generated software: a working demo is not a secure, well-tested application, and the "if you can describe it, it can exist" framing should not be read as "if you can describe it, it is done." For personal tools, small paid data products and internal tools — the use cases Pilely itself showcases — those limits are acceptable. For anything handling other people's sensitive data, they are the whole decision.
